2. BATAK

"Batak" ethnic group in Indonesia is a collective term to identify several sub-ethnic group who live in Tapanuli, North Sumatera, such as :  Karo, Pak-pak, Toba, Simalungun, Mandailing and Angkola.

Topography and nature of Tapanuli with fertile land, has drawn Old Malayan move toward to "Toba Lake" area about 4.000 till 7.000 years ago. Language and proof of archaelogy showed that Austronesian from Taiwan has move toward to Sumatera and Filipina about 2.500 years ago, may be possible "Batak" include in this group.  Each of sub-ethnic group has unique culture specially "TRADITIONAL WEDDING" that we talk about one of interesting offer Indonesia.



2a. "BATAK KARO"



































This is "Batak Karo" traditional wedding fashion set, look so beautifull...refreshing the eye...

a wedding robe style dominated red and black, full of gold accesories sign of prosperity.

Wedding gown consist of red blouse with long sleeve (kebaya) match with "sungkit sarong" twist by  traditional clothes special woven come to be called "Ulos".



Bride :

Use : “seratli layang-layang kitik (head accesories band at veil), “uis jujung-jujungan” (veil), “padang raja mehuli” (earring), “sertali layang-layang” (necklace), “uis benang iring” (special woven as sarong), “uis julu” (inside clothes), “Uis  gara” (clothes as veil), “Uis kelam-kelam” (clothes as veil  joint uis gara-gara), “songket” (sarong), kebaya (blouse).



Bride groom :

Use : “uis nipes beka buluh” (clothes as head accesories), “sertali rumah-rumah” (necklace), “sertali rumah kitik” (head accesories band at veil), “gelang sarung” (bracelet use right hand), “rudang mayang” (clothes accesories), “songket” (scarf).











"Rumah adat Siwaluh Jabu"

This house build in high stanchion. Usually live by 1 big family consist of 4 till 8 family.

This house design with open partition, so everyone can access each other, but in Batak Karo, they have a strong rule although not see the border line. Every room have name and who should live in this room a given by agreement.
